There are two main advantages of remote testing. First, recruiting participants is easier since they can join from wherever is most convenient. Second, a higher sample can be run for the same price as on-site moderated studies.
Remote testing does have limitations, however. These include an inability to collect non-verbal information such as facial expressions or the body language of participants, eye tracking can’t be used remotely, and testing on mobile devices requires additional setup, troubleshooting, and use of a downloaded app by participants.
